Identifikasi Tanaman Alpukat (Persea americana) Sebagai Tanaman Multi Purpose Tree Species (MPTS) di Tiga Kabupaten Dataran Rendah di Sumatera Utara

Abstract

Indonesia is a tropical country that is grown by various plant species that can be used as food source, among them, there are fruit plants such as avocado plant (Persea americana). Avocado is a multi purpose tree species (MPTS) that can be utilized either the wood or non-wood (fruit, leave, flower and seeds). The difference between growing places of these avocado causes their growth diverse either in morphology, taste, fat contents, resistance againts disease and its keeping. Alsoits adaptation abilities againt environment. This research is purposed to identify morphological characteristics on highland avocado plants in Deli Serdang, Serdang Bedagai and Binjai regency and as a conservation matter in some regencies in north Sumatera. The sample collection technique is accidental sampling,purposive sampling and snowball. Result of this research shows avocado plant species that has very high sale value, that potential for increasing society's economics and appropriate to become an agroforestry plant is avocado plant that grown in Sumber Mulyo Rejo village, sub disctrict East Binjai, Binjai regency (P27). Cultivation technique of avocado plant for receiving maximum result needs to pay attention in planting patterns, varieties usage, planting time, field condition, plants upkeep and post harvest handling. The superior avocado variety from 3 mentioned regency for consumption is Binjai regency's avocado.
