    Abstract
Styrax sumatrana is a sap producer that can be developed for its high economic value. Styrax sumatrana is an endemic tree species that grows only in certain areas such as North Sumatra. Vegetation composition is the result of spatial arrangement of the constituent components of stands and living forms, stratification, and vegetation closure described through the state of diameter, height, distribution in space, crown diversity, and continuity of species. Association is the interest of plants to grow together with other plants. There are associations that are positive, negative or not associated. Positive association occurs when a plant species is present together with another plant species or species pairs occur more often than expected. Negative association occurs when a plant species is not present with other plant species or species pairings occur less frequently than expected. This research was conducted in the Community Forest of Aek Nauli Village, Pollung District, Humbang Hasundutan Regency in June 2022-July 2022. In the vegetation analysis in the Community Forest, the identified plant species amounted to 47 tree species and 27 species for understory tree species and species for understory plants. This study aims to determine the vegetation composition and association relationship of Styrax sumatrana with other plants. This research was conducted by direct survey to the field using the "Plotted Line Method". Data processing using the Vegetation Analysis formula. The study showed the highest INP at the tree level was Kemenyan (Styrax sumatrana) at 191.05%, at the pole level was (Styrax sumatrana) at 36.23%, at the sapling level suhul-suhul (Macaranga gigantea) at 17.55%, at the seedling level monis-monis (Glochidion rubrum) at 18.26%, and at the lower plant level Diplazium esculentum at 25.90%. Species that are highly associated with frankincense (Styrax sumatrana) are lak-lak (Cordyline fruticosa), rogas (Gluta renghas L), suhul-suhul (Macaranga gigantea), siringgas (Ficus elastica), and sirik-rik.
