The Mencirim River is one of the rivers in North Sumatra Province. Along the river there are several activities, including plantations and many settlements along the river are used as household waste disposal sites which can cause a decrease in water quality. Macrozoobenthos is an important bioindicator to determine water quality because it can describe the condition of a waters. This research was conducted from September to November 2022 on the Mencirim River, North Sumatra Province. Water quality measurements were analyzed using the Pollution Index and CCME based on water quality standards according to Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021. Then the relationship between water quality and macrozoobenthos diversity was analyzed using the PCA method. The method of determining research stations is purposive random sampling, namely by selecting three research stations based on environmental conditions that are considered appropriate to the research objectives. The results of this study concluded that the water quality based on the Pollution Index Method at Station I was classified as good, while stations II and III were classified as lightly polluted. Based on the CCME method, station I is classified as very good, while stations II and III are classified as quite good. Based on PCA analysis, the results obtained were a strong relationship between the BOD and pH parameters with a positive correlation or in the same direction with the value (0.798 and 0.788), the current velocity and DO parameters obtained a strong relationship with a negative correlation or inversely with the value (-0.753 and -0.661). While the temperature and depth parameters obtained a moderate relationship with a positive correlation or in the same direction as the values (0.504 and 0.442). And for TSS and TDS, namely the level of relationship is very low and low with negative and positive correlation with values (-0.132 and 0.206). The CCME method has a higher sensitivity than the pollution index method.
