dc.description.abstract | This title of this paper is "Analysis of Forms and Meanings of Mieido and
Nyoraido Honzan Senjuji in Mie Prefecture". This study aims to describe the
form and architectural meaning of the mieido and nyoraido buildings from otera
(Buddhist temple), named Honzan Senjuji located in Tsu City, Mie Prefecture,
Japan by using semantic studies. In collecting data and materials related to this
research topic, qualitative methods are used with qualitative descriptive types
and literature study methods. This study uses the theory of stmcturalist forms and
the semiotic theory of meaning, so the researcher able to explain the forms and
meanings of the mieido and nyoraido Honzan Senjuji buildings in Mie Prefecture
through videos uploaded on the TSU CITY youtube channel. The data found
were categorized based on the shape of the building parts, then described
according to their meaning. In the results of the study, researchers classify the
shape of the rnieido and nyoraido Honzan Senjuji in Mie Prefecture into 3 parts,
namely the shape of the roof, the shape of the outside of the building and the
shape of the inside of the building. Mieido is built in the wayo style, with low
characterized irimoya roof, thin, horizontal pillars called nageshi, with thin
wooden windows (renjimado). Nyoraido buildings are built in the zenshuyo style
with irimoya and yosemune two-tiered roofs with thicker pillars and wooden
rafters between the roofs called tsumegumi and bell-shaped windows called
katomado. In addition, researchers also classify the meaning of the building into
3 parts, namely as a symbol of Honzan Senjuji, as a visualization of
gokurakujyodo (Western Heaven) and symbols of Amidanyorai and Shinran
