dc.description.abstract | This study aims to describe the politeness principles in the buying and selling of
seafood at the Tanjung Tiram Market, Batu Bara Regency, and to find out the form of
politeness in the language of the community in the buying and selling of seafood at the
Tanjung Tiram Market, Batu Bara Regency. This study used data collection methods in
the form of proficient free listening techniques, recording techniques, note-taking
techniques, as well as documentation and data analysis by reducing data. The research
data is in the form of utterances that contain language politeness and are sourced from
data from sellers and buyers of seafood in the Tanjung Tiram market. This study uses
politeness theory in the form of politeness principles using a qualitative descriptive
research method approach. The results of this study use a lot of direct speech that
sounds more polite than direct speech that sounds impolite. The principle of language
politeness contained in buying and selling transactions at the Tanjung Tiram Market,
Batu Bara Regency is 6 maxims that are fulfilled, namely the maxim of discretion, the
maxim of appreciation, the maxim of modesty, the maxim of agreement, the maxim of
sympathy, the maxim of consideration and which is most dominantly used by sellers
and buyers in the market. Tanjung Tiram, namely the maxim of agreement, there are 8
