This thesis investigates about the effect of using the Powtoon application to
incease of learning English vocabulary for the students' in SMA Tunas Binjai. The
research aims to show the using of Powtoon can increase students’ vocabulary, to
compare the differences vocabulary enhancement between Powtoon class and
non-Powtoon class, and to explain the reason of using Powtoon can increase
students’ vocabulary. The method used in this research is quantitative approach to
involve the process of collecting, analyzing, and interpreting the result of the
research. The results of this research show that the first is the creation of powtoon
application can be applied to increase students' vocabulary. The second is the
Powtoon class has the average score of the pretest is 36.19 while in the non-
Powtoon class is 38.40, the difference in the pre-test score is 2.21 points and for
the average score from post-test in the Powtoon class is 82.31 while in non-
Powtoon class is 71.70, the difference in the post-test score is 10.61 points. It
shows that there is an improvement of mastery vocabulary in the short story
material which is taught by Powtoon for Powtoon class than mastery vocabulary
in the short story material which is taught without Powtoon in the non-Powtoon
class. The third is the students who like the way to increase vocabulary by using
Powtoon application that it can be proven by the results from the percentage of
students' response questionnaires show strongly agree is 67.05%.
