It is essential for a nurse to adapt to various internal and external stimuli during the nursing practice performance in correctional institutions. The nurse’s adaptation ability affects the quality of nursing service provided to inmates. It is qualitative research that uses a descriptive phenomenological approach. 7 participants are involved in this research consisting of 5 nurses, 1 head of the nursing section, and 1 head of the counseling division. Data are collected using the in-depth interviews method and the data are analyzed using Colaizzi’s method. The research results indicates 8 themes, namely performing nurses’ job duties and functions, encountering many obstacles in performing nursing practices, facing social stigma, nurses’ physical and psychological responses, attempting to adapt during the nursing practice, gaining support from the head or supervisor, nurses’ adaptive responses in performing nursing practice and having expectation towards the nursing practice performance. Nurses are required to adapt themselves to the work environment during the nursing practice in order to provide maximal and high-quality nursing services to the patients.
