dc.description.abstract | The aims of the study were (1) to identify the meaning of village names, (2) to identify the toponymy categories of villages, and (3) to identify cultural values in the toponymy of villages in Serdang Bedagai District. This study uses an anthropolinguistic approach that links language studies with culture. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The method used in data collection is an interview method using all-encompassing techniques, recording techniques, and note-taking techniques. In this method, the technique of sorting out the determining elements is used as a reference differentiator. The results of this study indicate that there is a meaning of comparing, a meaning of advising, and a meaning of expecting. The researcher categorizes the names of these villages based on aspects of their naming (1) embodiment aspects (water setting, earth likeness, and natural environment setting), (2) social aspects (economics and community leaders), and (3) cultural aspects (myths, legends , folklore, and belief systems or religion). Cultural values contained in the toponymy of the villages in Serdang Bedagai Regency consist of cultural values of peace, harmony, commitment, and gratitude. There are values of harmony that are shared by five villages, the value of commitment is in one village and the value of gratitude is in one village. Welfare cultural values consist of the value of caring for the environment and the value of hard work. There is a value of caring for the environment that is shared by two villages, and the value of hard work is in one village. | en_US |
