dc.description.abstract | This study aims to describe the types and forms of conversational implicatures between characters found in Hikayat Bayan Budiman. This study used data collection techniques, namely literature study techniques and combined with advanced methods, namely observing and noting methods. The data in this study are conversations between characters contained in Hikayat Bayan Budiman which originates from Hikayat Bayan Budiman which was published in Singapore and edited by the Balai Pustaka Team in 2011. This research uses pragmatic theory using a qualitative descriptive approach. The results of this study indicate that the total data found in Hikayat Bayan Budiman is twenty-nine data, consisting of eight types of conversational implicature and twenty-one forms of conversational implicature. The conclusion of this study is that special conversational implicature requires context to understand its meaning. Meanwhile, general conversational implicature does not need context in assuming its meaning. The reader only needs to observe the form of his speech/conversation. So, what is assumed is only the meaning of the conversation by observing the structure of the words used through the person playing the role. Scaled conversational implicature does not need context in assuming its meaning because it is a general conversational implicature. It's just that this implicature has other characteristics because it points to a value scale. In addition, the use of conversational implicature forms in the Hikayat Bayan Budiman has reasons, namely to soften speech so that the interlocutor is not offended, admonishes to improve the use of language, trains discipline, governs in a subtle way. | en_US |
