dc.description.abstract | The social system of Indonesian society is diverse. This is also found in
North Sumatra State Universities. Students actually have independent characters,
are active, intellectual and are in scientific space and interact with different
ethnicities. However, in reality these migrant students are more active in their
ethnic activities. This study aims to find out how the social relations of migrant
students build social relations on the USU campus and the surrounding
environment as well as the factors that build this social reality. The research
method used is descriptive qualitative research method. Data collection techniques
using the method of observation, interviews and documentation. Research
informants were determined by purposive sampling procedure. This research was
conducted by interviewing 10 informants. From the results of this study, the social
relations of USU's Social Sciences migrant students have ethnic diversity. Migrant
student relations in building social relations are carried out through friendships
that prioritize ethnicity. The organizations followed are regional and tribal
organizations. The organization has many positive impacts on migrant students
and the purpose of joining the organization is to build social relations. The results
of the study also show that migrant students join organizations and build social
relations referring to aspects of ethnicity, to the same cultural background.
Migrant students experience the initial stages of adjusting to their campus
environment. Furthermore, the objectification stage, the way migrant students
interact with the social system and through understanding that can come from the
process of imitation, suggestion, sympathy and motivation, the internalization of
migrant students towards social relations that are built, namely social relations
that lead to their ethnicity (ethnicity). | en_US |
