A Description of The Main Character in The Movie Maleficent

Abstract

This paper discusses the portrayal of the main character and the impact of the main character's wrongdoing in the Maleficent movie. This research only focuses on one main character named Maleficent. This study uses qualitative descriptive research. The writer collected the data by selecting dialogues and actions or scene. The writer uses Murphy's theory to describe the portrayal of the main character and Suharno and Retnoningsih's theory to describe the impact of the wrongdoing of the main character in the movie Maleficent. The results of this study shows Maleficent is portrayed as a kind of fairy who is loving, caring, and helping at first sight and rather contrast at the other side. Because of betrayal, she changes into devil fairy that affects love changes into hatred, caring becomes revenge and helping changes into anger. The appearance of Maleficent as a name is descriptive of efficient for something bad in terms of maleficent.
