In an effort to understand the dialectics that occurs in an interpersonal relationship, .Leslie Baxter & Barbara Montgomery sparked the theory of relational dialectics. In this theory it is explained that the dialectics experienced in a relationship can occur internally and externally. This research aims to analyze effects of internal and external dialectics as well as strategies for solving internal and external dialectics on couples of childbearing age in underprivileged Chinese ethnicity families in Medan City. The research uses a combined approach with a mixed methods model embedded design in data collection techniques and data analysis techniques. Therefore the data generated are in the form of quantitative data and qualitative data. The researcher gives priority to quantitative data obtained from, JOO respondents, while qualitative data is collected through focus group discussion interviews with 6 informants as informants who are used to complete the data and to elaborate on the resu/Js of a more complete analysis. The research results based on quantitative data using descriptive statistical analysis show that effect of internal dialectics variables obtains an average value of 4.10 and effect of external dialectics variables obtains an average value of 3.49 on a Likert scale of 5 points. Based on the assessment criteria using the grand mean analysis, both are in a relatively stable condition. However, this value means that the respondents in this research tend to be more able to overcome the internal dialectic that occurs than the external dialectic towards the use of contraceptives. Meanwhile, the dialectical settlement strategies used by respondents in solving internal dialectics tend to use a balance strategy and in solving external dialectics use an integration strategy.en_US
