dc.description.abstractThis paper discusses the process and function of the tradition of welcoming the birth of a child called Mangharoan in Batak Toba. The Batak Toba community believes that the Mangharoan tradition contains cultural beliefs or values. The Mangharoan tradition has a very valuable value because it contains harmony and unity in understanding the meaning of welcoming the birth of a baby. In addition, the function of the Mangharoan tradition itself is to strengthen family relationships, thanks giving, morality and preservation tradition. The theory applied in writing this paper is Mangharoan Tradition in Batak. Besides that the method used is qualitative research where the author describes the existing data and then draws conclusions to find out more clearly about the Mangharoan tradition. The Mangharoan birth tradition is a Batak Toba cultural heritage that needs to be preserved because it reflects the identity of the Batak Toba community.en_US
