A Description of Sinte Mungerje in Gayo Tribe

Abstract

This paper discusses the process of wedding tradition and symbolic meaning of Sinte Mungerje in Aceh Gayo. Acehnese people believe that Sinte Mungerje ceremony contains belief or value culturally. Sinte Mungerje tradition is valuable for it covers harmony and unity in understanding what marriage is. In addition, symbolic function of this marriage tradition emphasizes how symbols color the nuance of marriage meaning itself for the Acehnese. The theory applied in this paper writing is marriage tradition of Sinte Mungerje of Acehnese people. Besides that the method is named qualitative research in which the writer describes the data and then takes conclusion for clarity of marriage tradition of Sinte Mungerje. Traditional marriage of Sinte Mungerje is cultural heritage of Acehnese to preserve because it reflects what belongs to Acehnese people.
