Makna Merokok Bagi Ibu Rumah Tangga di Desa Bandar Setia

Abstract

The phenomenon of women smoking is found in Bandar Setia Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, where in this village there are many women who smoke by housewives. Based on observations and observations made on female smokers, it was seen that smoking is a routine activity that is carried out every day. The problem of women smoking is the result of the currents of modernization and globalization that have entered Indonesia. There is a grouping of people who have accepted the situation of women smoking and there are also some people who have not accepted it so that it gives a stigma to smoking women, especially housewives.The purpose of this study was to describe how housewives continue to smoke amidst the negative social stigma towards women smokers. The method used in this research is qualitative with a descriptive approach, where data collection is done by interview, observation, and documentation. The results of the study show that the rationality of housewives in smoking is caused by their own initiative, seeking calm and because of fun and because of a feeling of calm when smoking.Smoking activities carried out by housewives bring their own fear. When carrying out smoking activities, they feel that their actions will one day be imitated by their children, so their efforts are to provide direction and guidance from an early age. Smoking activities carried out by housewives are carried out in certain locations such as in the home environment, carried out in certain places or only in the family environment. Even though they received resistance from family members such as resistance from husbands, children, and even parents, the ban did not become an obstacle for them to continue smoking
