Abstract
In social life, of course, we cannot be separated from the so-called social
layer or social stratification, whether we encounter it in urban or rural
communities. There are things that are considered valuable in society that cause
social layers in the community itself, be it wealth, position, lineage, land area or
title. This research focused on pond farmers in the village of Mesjid Lama, Talawi
District, Batu Bara Regency. Through this research, researchers want to see how
the forms of stratification that occur among these pond farmers and also how
social solidarity forms among these pond farmers.
The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a descriptive
approach. Data collection techniques are using in-depth interviews, observation
and documentation. The informant determination technique is a purposive
sampling technique. The data presented refers to the structural theory of functional
stratification put forward by Wilbert Moore and Kingsley Davis as well as Emile
Durkheim's theory of social solidarity, namely the aspect of the relationship
between the pond farmers. The results of this study are the occurrence of a form of
stratification caused by differences in the ownership of pond area and also the
types of aquatic animals cultivated by pond farmers.
Even so, the relationship between pond farmers remains harmonious
between them and the creation of social solidarity, both mechanical and organic
solidarity with one another, both pond workers and pond owners, pond owners
and pond owners, pond workers and pond workers and as a whole the relationship
between pond farmers is very good so as to form a social solidarity among the
pond farmers.
