Pemahaman Masyarakat tentang Pengelolaan Sampah di Desa Lambar Kecamatan Tigapanah Kabupaten Karo Provinsi Sumatera Utara

Abstract

Environmental pollution is an ongoing problem that is increasing due to various factors, such as the growing human population and community activities. These factors lead to an increase in the amount and composition of waste being disposed of, exacerbated by inadequate waste disposal facilities and a lack of public awareness and willingness to manage and dispose of waste. Additionally, there is a lack of understanding among the public regarding the benefits of waste management, as well as a reluctance to reuse waste due to its perceived dirtiness or lack of prestige. These issues contribute to a decline in environmental quality, negatively impacting the community. Therefore, it is crucial to enhance the community's understanding of waste management. This research was conducted in Lambar Village, Tigapanah District, Karo Regency, North Sumatra Province, to assess the community's understanding of waste management. Questionnaires were distributed to predetermined respondents for data collection. Based on the facts and data analysis, it was concluded that the community in Lambar Village demonstrates a good understanding of waste management, as evidenced by their interpretation, exemplification, classification, summarization, conclusion, comparison, and explanation of waste management concepts. This understanding encompasses waste accumulation restrictions, waste recycling, waste reuse, and waste sorting/grouping, with a mean value of 3.77.
