dc.description.abstract | A complete denture is an artificial appliance that replaces natural teeth using
hot polymerized acrylic resin (RAPP) as a denture base. Soft denture liner (SDL) is a
denture coating material used to increase the comfort of complete denture users. One
of the disadvantages of using SDL on denture base is that it can support the colonization
of Candida albicans and other microorganisms that can cause denture stomatitis. Based
on this, efforts are needed to prevent denture stomatitis or to treat/disinfect SDL. One
effort that can be done is by adding antifungal ingredients to SDL. Oregano essential
oil oregano 3,125% is an herbal ingredient that has superior antifungal properties. This
study aims to determine the effect of the addition of oregano essential oil oregano
3,125% on the adhesive strength of self-polymerized silicon SDL. The samples in this
study were hot polymerized acrylic resin and self-polymerized silicon SDL which were
made using rectangular molds with a size of 40 mm x 10 mm x 10 mm with a tapering
end measuring 15 mm x 10 mm x 8 mm. The number of samples in this study were 40
samples (n=40) which were divided into 8 groups (n=5). Samples were placed in an
incubator at 37°C for 1 and 7 days for the untreated group, with the addition of nystatin,
and with the addition of 3.125% oregano essential oil oregano 3,125%. Whereas in the
0.5% sodium hypochlorite immersion group, the sample was first placed in an
incubator at 37°C for 24 hours as a simulation of the oral cavity. Furthermore, the
sample is immersed in sodium hypochlorite solution 0.5% for 15 and 105 minutes
assuming a usage time of 1 and 7 days. Adhesive strength measurements were carried out using the Tensile Strength method using a universal testing machine (UTM). The
research data were analyzed using the univariate test to determine the mean value and
standard deviation of the adhesive strength of each group. A two-way ANOVA test to
determine the effect of denture wearing time on the adhesive strength of soft denture
liner silicone self-polymerization soaked in distilled water, 0.5% sodium hypochlorite,
Nystatin and 3.125% Origanum vulgare and the effect of adding oregano essential oil
oregano 3,125% based on time of use. The results of the univariate test analysis showed
that the mean value and standard deviation of the adhesive strength in the group without
treatment with 1 day use time was 0.72 ± 0.04 MPa, the 0.5% sodium hypochlorite
immersion group with 1 day use time was 0.84 ± 0 .02 MPa, the group adding nystatin
and using 1 day was 0.8 ± 0.02 MPa, the group adding 3.125% oregano essential oil
oregano 3,125% and using 1 day was 0.99 ± 0.1 MPa, the group without treatment was
0.99 ± 0.1 MPa, the group without treatment was 7 days was 0.49 ± 0.04 MPa, 0.5%
sodium hypochlorite immersion group with 7 days usage time was 0.55 ± 0.02 MPa,
nystatin addition group with 7 days usage time was 0.53 ± 0.00, 03 MPa, and the group
adding 3.125% oregano essential oil oregano 3,125% with a usage time of 7 days was
0.61 ± 0.06 MPa. The results of the two-way ANOVA test obtained a significant effect
with p = 0.003 (p <0.05) for the effect of immersion time for all groups. Two-way
ANOVA test results obtained a significant effect on the addition of 3.125% oregano
essential oil oregano 3,125% with p<0.001 (p<0.05) indicating an increase in bond
strength. adhesive strength value. The addition of 3.125% oregano essential oil oregano
3,125% into self-polymerized silicon SDL can be used as a method of preventing the
growth of Candida albicans while taking into account other properties. | en_US |
