    Abstract
The commonly used denture base material is heat-cured acrylic resin, but this material has relatively low transverse strength so it fractures easily. The transverse strength can be increased by adding reinforcing agents, such as hydroxyapatite. Hydroxyapatite binds mechanically to heat-cured acrylic resin structure and fills the gaps between particles in the material, so the bond gets stronger. This study aims to determine the effect of adding 0,5%, 2%, and 5% hydroxyapatite to heat-cured acrylic resin denture base material on transverse strength. Design of the study is experimental laboratories with a post-test only control group. The samples used heat-cured acrylic resin without addition of hydroxyapatite and with addition of 0,5%, 2%, and 5% hydroxyapatite which made from a master model measuring 65 mm x 10 mm x 2.5 mm (ADA No. 12). Total sample is 36 and will be tested using Universal Testing Machine. The univariate statistical analysis was carried out to determine the mean value and standard deviation of the transverse strength, followed by oneway-Anova test to showed the effect of adding 0,5%, 2%, and 5% hydroxyapatite on the transverse strength with a value of p = 0,001 (p<0,05). In the LSD test results, there was a significant difference between control group, 0,5%, 2%, and 5% hydroxyapatite addition group with value p<0,05. The highest heat-cured acrylic resin transverse strength values is the group without addition of hydroxyapatite followed by the group with addition 0,5%, 2% and 5% hydroxyapatite. The conclusion of this study is the addition of hydroxyapatite to the heat-cured acrylic resin without used silane coupling agents can reduce the transverse strength and caused heat-cured acrylic resin denture base fractures easily.
