| dc.description.abstract | Streptococcus mutans is one of the bacteria that can turn into a pathogen that causes dental caries and Candida albicans can also be a pathogen that causes oral candidiasis. Objectives to find antimicrobial effect of toothpaste made from bagasse based on Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans at concentrations of 6.25%, 12.5% and 25%. Methods namely laboratory experimental with post-test control group design. The antimicrobial activity test used was the Total Plate Count method. The antimicrobial test was determined by calculating the average number of Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans colonies in sugarcane bagasse charcoal toothpaste with concentrations of 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, positive control (commercial toothpaste) and negative control (placebo toothpaste). The results on the Kruskall wallis test showed that there was a significant difference in the average number of Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans colonies in all treatments. The results of the Mann withney test proved that 6.25%, 12.5%, 25% bagasse charcoal toothpaste and commercial toothpaste could reduce the number of colony growth better than placebo toothpaste. These results also concluded that bagasse charcoal toothpaste 6.25%, 12.5%, 25% has an antimicrobial effect similar to commercial toothpaste in reducing the number of Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans colonies. Conclusion: Toothpaste made from bagasse which is processed into toothpaste made from bagasse charcoal with concentrations of 6.25%, 12.5% and 25% has antimicrobial effects for Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans. | en_US |
