Hubungan Xerostomia pada Perokok dengan Coated Tongue di Kecamatan Tanah Pinem Kabupaten Dairi Tahun 2022
Abstract
Xerostomia is a subjective symptom of dry mouth that can accompany
hyposalivation. One of the causes of xerostomia is smoking because nicotine content
and exposure to cigarette smoke can affect salivary gland function and morphology.
Xerostomia causes a decrease in lubrication function and salivary protection that
makes tongue movement limited and susceptible to irritation so that a
pseudomembrane on the surface of the tongue is called a coated tongue. This study
aims to determine the relationship of xerostomia in smokers with coated tongue in
Tanah Pinem District, Dairi Regency. This study used an analytic survey method with
a cross-sectional approach. Samples were selected using a purposive sampling

see coated tongue condition. The results of this study showed 87.1% of smokers
smoked for more than ten years, 50% consumed 11-20 cigarettes in one day, and
