| dc.description.abstract | Demineralization is characterized by the dissolution of minerals from the hard tissues of the teeth and a decrease in the hardness of the enamel surface. Remineralization agents can restore the minerals in the teeth. One of the remineralization materials is hydroxyapatite from carp (Cyprinus carpio) scales. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the application of hydroxyapatite paste 20% from carp (Cyprinus carpio) scales for 14 days on the surface hardness of tooth enamel and its comparison with casein phosphopeptide – amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP). This type of laboratory experimental research was post test control group design using 24 samples of premolars which were divided into 4 groups. Group 1 demineralized, 20% hydroxyapatite paste from carp (Cyprinus carpio) scales was applied. Group 2 was demineralized, CPP-ACP was applied. Group 3 demineralized. Group 4 without treatment. The sample is placed in an artificial saliva. Replacement of artificial saliva and treatment every day for 14 days. Tooth enamel surface hardness was tested using a micro vickers hardness tester. The normality test by Shapiro-Wilk using SPSS version 25 showed that the data were normally distributed, the Levene test homogeneity test showed that the data were not homogeneous, followed by the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests to see comparisons between groups. The Kruskal-Wallis test showed that there were significant differences in the four groups. The Mann-Whitney results showed insignificant differences in surface hardness in the hydroxyapatite and CPP-ACP groups (p=0.262). There was a significant difference between the hydroxyapatite and demineralized groups (p=0.004), the CPP-ACP and demineralized groups (p=0.004). There is an effect of applying 20% hydroxyapatite paste from carp scales in increasing the surface hardness of tooth enamel and there is no significant difference between 20% hydroxyapatite paste and CPP-ACP. | en_US |
