Penggunaan Emoticon di Kalangan Generasi Z terhadap Efektifitas Komunikasi di Whatsapp
Abstract
This research is entitled "Use of Emoticons Among Generation Z on the Effectiveness of
Communication on Whatsapp". The purpose of this study is to determine the extent to which
the use of emoticons among the Z generation influences the effectiveness of communication
on WhatsApp. The theory used is Communication Theory, Mass Communication, Uses and
Gratification, Communication Technology, New Media, and Communication Effectiveness.
This research is a quantitative research using correlational method. This method aims to
find whether or not a correlation exists. This study used a population of 26,663 people. The
sampling technique used non-probability sampling with purposive sampling method. The
method used in this study is correlational which aims to find relationships between one
variable and another. The data analysis technique used in this study is using descriptive
statistical analysis, namely single table analysis and cross table analysis and using
inferential statistical analysis namely hypothesis testing through the Spearman's Rho Rank Order Correlations formula using the SPSS 25 application. Based on the results of validity
and reliability tests there are 20 valid questions and reliability values of 0.891 and 0.777.
From the results of the hypothesis test the rho value is 0.722 on the Guilford scale 0.722 is
at the level of 0.71-0.90 which shows a fairly high and strong correlation, It means that
there is an influence between variable X on variable Y by 52%. In this research the
hypothesis tested was Ha, namely that there is an influence between the use of emoticons
among the z generation on the effectiveness of communication on WhatsApp.
