Abstract
Social media is used as an arena for oversharing among generation Z. All
kinds of activities are carried out as if they have to be uploaded or shared via
social media so that everyone can find out what is being done or what is
happening to an individual. Among generation Z, social media is in great demand,
they are very active and exist on social media. This study aims to find out the
motive behind the oversharing phenomenon of generation Z on social media, to
find out how the interaction differences between oversharing on social media and
the backstage in the daily life of generation Z and to find out how social reality
happens to social media users who do oversharing by using the theory of
dramaturgy, namely the theory that says that a person's life is a stage that is being
played by individuals. This research uses a descriptive method with a qualitative
approach. The object of this research is the generation Z group who often share
their posts and daily activities on social media. The key informants (key persons)
in this study are generation Z who are very active and exist on social media while
additional informants in this study are people who actively use social media. Data
analysis in this study used the Miles and Huberman Model, namely by carrying
out the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusions.
The results of the study show that: 1) Generation Z's oversharing motives on
social media are wanting to be perceived as young people who know in advance
all the information circulating on social media, wanting to get benefits and
aligning friends, wanting to be appreciated by people and giving personal
branding who are good at social media, want to be considered pious young people
and gain fame and want to make other people jealous of the happiness that is
exhibited on social media. 2) The difference in interaction between oversharing on
social media and the backstage of Z generation's daily life was found that each
individual has differences when interacting on social media and interacting in life
outside social media such as differences in attitudes and differences in how to
dress. 3) The social reality that occurs in social media users who do oversharing is
that social reality is formed from the results of social construction that occurs in
society and is constructed by social media users according to what individuals
want.
