Abstract
This research is entitled "Communication Patterns of Early Age Mothers in Parenting in
Wonorejo Village, Pematang Bandar District, Simalungun Regency". The purpose of this
study was to determine the communication patterns of mothers who married at an early age
in raising children in Wonorejo Village, Pematang Bandar District, Simalungun Regency.
According to Gunawan, this study uses three kinds of communication patterns between
parents and children, namely permissive communication patterns, authoritarian
communication patterns, and democratic communication patterns (authoritative). This
research uses a qualitative descriptive method using a case study method. There were eight
informants in this study, namely; five early-age mothers as the main informants and three
additional informants, namely one kindergarten teacher, one village midwife, and one
village official. Data collection techniques used are in-depth interviews and observation.
The results showed that the communication patterns applied by early-age mothers in raising
children in Wonorejo Village were permissive and democratic (authoritative)
communication patterns. There are three early age mothers who apply liberating
communication patterns, namely; Informants 1,4, and 5 as well as two early-age mothers
who apply democratic communication patterns, namely; Informants 2 and 3. The pattern
of liberating communication is characterized by giving complete freedom to the child to
behave and act according to the child's wishes, but the mother's control over the child is
low. The pattern of democratic communication is characterized by the existence of two way communication that exists between mothers while still having clear boundaries on
what is allowed and what is not permissible for children.
