This research is entitled "Interpersonal Communication and Self-Concept of Employees
with Disabilities Alfamidi Branch Medan" with the aim of knowing about how
interpersonal communication affects the self-concept of employees with disabilities
Alfamidi Branch Medan, The reasons why Alfamidi Branch Medan's disabled employees
still want to work amid the many negative stigmas that degrade people with disabilities,
the obstacles that Alfamidi Branch Medan's disabled employees have in working. This
research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive research methods, meanwhile the
data collection techniques used were in-depth interviews and participant observation. The
number of informants in this study consisted of 5 person which is an employee with
disabilities from Alfamidi Branch Medan who has been accepted and works at Alfamidi,
selected by purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis techniques consist of data
condensation, data presentation and activity conclusions. The results showed that
interpersonal communication and the informant's overall self-concept were well formed.
All informants already have good self-confidence, good self-acceptance, and high gratitude
which are factors that keep them enthusiastic about working amid the many negative
stigmas about people with disabilities. Interpersonal communication carried out by
informants, especially with their parents, is what most shapes their self-concept for the
better because they think the enthusiasm and motivation of parents is the most meaningful
thing. Although it is undeniable that there are obstacles they have in working, all of these
obstacles can be surmountable.
