dc.description.abstract | This research entitled “The Meaning of Generation Z Women in Medan Concerning Beauty
Privilege Phenomenon”. This study aimed to determine Generation Z Women interpret
beauty privilege phenomenon in their life and its applications they have been through. The
theories in this study is symbolic interactionism theory. This study uses qualitative
approach with descriptive research method. Five research informants were selected using
a purposive technique. Data collection techniques are observation and interviews. Data
that has been collected then analyzed using condensation, data presentation, and
conclusion. Validity test is carried out using triangulation. The results showed that
someone with beauty privilege will always be advantaged and ease in every aspect because
of her beauty. This happens because there are beauty trend and beauty standard people in
public made that force someone to be skinny, fair skin, and tall body. Social media also
become a factor that influence women to keep up their appearances. The four informants
willing to do painful treatments for their beauty that cost much enough money. Two out of
five informants had beauty privilege often get convenience in every aspect such as comfort
place in public space, prioritized in public space, easy to get a job, and understandably
when making a mistake. Three out of five informants had not beauty privilege obviously
never get special treatment from people around them. They are being insecure when beauty
privilege happens around them, they even tried to change their looks just to fulfill the
existing beauty standard | en_US |
