| dc.description.abstract | Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (SAR) is a disease that often occurs in society but in general, knowledge about recurrent aphthous stomatitis is still relatively low. The result is that frequent errors often occur in determining the causes of recurrent aphthous stomatitis and how to treat it. An optimal level of knowledge about recurrent aphthous stomatitis is essential to help people deal with recurrent aphthous stomatitis appropriately. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of knowledge Mechanical Engineering Students in University of North Sumatera on the definition and epidemiology, etiology and predisposing factors, clinical features, and how to treat recurrent aphthous stomatitis. The research is a descriptive study with a cross sectional method. The research samples were collected in June 2023 at the Mechanical Engineering Program in University of North Sumatera with the sampling technique carried out by stratified sampling technique with purposive sampling method. The research subjects were 105 students selected based on the inclusion criteria who were actively studying in the Mechanical Engineering Program at the University of North Sumatera and were willing to become research respondents, and the exclusion criteria who did not provide cooperation in answering questions on the questionnaire. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires. The results of the study were analyzed univariately and calculated in percentage form. The results showed that 48.7% of Mechanical Engineering students had poor level of knowledge about recurrent aphthous stomatitis, 54.29% had moderate level of knowledge about the definition and epidemiology of recurrent aphthous stomatitis, 66.67% had poor level of knowledge about the etiology and predisposing factors for recurrent aphthous stomatitis, 56.19% had good level of knowledge about the clinical features of recurrent aphthous stomatitis, and 40% had moderate level of knowledge about how to treat recurrent aphthous stomatitis. The conclusion of this study shows that most of the Mechanical Engineering students still have insufficient knowledge about recurrent aphthous stomatitis. | en_US |
