Peran Pemuda dalam Menjaga Identitas Budaya Masyarakat Karo Perantau di Desa Minas Barat Kecamatan Minas Kabupaten Siak Provinsi Riau

Abstract

This research was conducted on the Karo community in West Minas Village, Minas sub-district, Siak district. The method used is a descriptive ethnographic research method. Sources of data in this research come from primary data with observation and in-depth interviews and secondary data with library research. Cultural identity has a central role in the life of the nation and state. The country will be very good if cultural values are rooted in the joints of people's lives. Indonesia, which is a large country with cultural diversity, has a tough task to maintain its cultural identity. Therefore the role of each existing ethnic is very necessary. Moreover, the role of youth is the key from all walks of life. The role of the youth attracted interest to be discussed regarding their efforts to maintain cultural identity. The results of the study show that youth are key in maintaining Karo cultural identity in West Minas Village. Youth form communities (organizations) and carry out programs for social purposes and also maintain the culture there. Programs such as holding the Year Work party, carrying out the Guro-guro Aron Gendang tradition, social activities, sports, arts and the creative economy are a series of activities to achieve this goal. However, it cannot be denied that there are many obstacles and problems that hinder the implementation of these programs. Problems such as the not optimal role of various parties in running the program, lack of community and government support to other internal and external problems are examples of the problems faced. Even so, it can be said that the goals that the youth want to achieve for their cultural identity have been realized, although not optimally. The findings of this study see that the role of youth is vital for the existence of the cultural identity of an ethnic group. By establishing cooperation between youth, society and government, it will make it easier for us to maintain our identity and culture. This could be a big step for Indonesia as a nation rich in culture so as not to lose its identity.
