Abstract

This study is entitled: opportunities and challenges of Ulos weavers in Kevin Tenun Creative Industries ( Case Study of Ulos weavers producers and workers in Nagapita Village, Siantar Martoba District, Pematangsiantar City ). The purpose of this study was to determine the background of the emergence of Kevin Tenun creative industries in Nagapita village, as well as knowing the opportunities and challenges faced by weavers as well as producers of Kevin Tenun Creative Industries, how the Ulos can still compete economically in the world of Creative Industries. This study was conducted with a descriptive qualitative approach to data collection techniques through observation and in-depth interviews using interview guide guidelines, where the authors went directly to the field to obtain strong information from informants, then This study used SWOT analysis method. With SWOT analysis will be able to produce the existence of several alternative strategies in decision making that is good to run. The results of this study showed the influence of the development of Kevin Tenun Creative Industries on the socio-economic life of Ulos weavers in Nagapita Village. Manufacturers managed to turn the household industry into a small industry Kevin loom. Based on information from the producers of Kevin Tenun and the weavers at the research site, it was concluded that the influence of Kevin Tenun's creative industry has a very pronounced impact on the community of weavers in Nagapita village, the emergence of new jobs also reduces the number of unemployed for the surrounding community as well as migrants. The batak social organization system that continues to survive is a factor in the emergence of ulos on the surface, where there is great demand, which results in high supply. Because in the batak organizational system almost the entire adat uses Ulos in the adat process, from beginning to end. Want it to be a happy traditional event to a sad traditional event.
