The background in this research is that in traditional markets we can see
how the activities are very distinctive and unique which are motivated by the
socio-cultural character of the community. One of the traditional markets that has
unique characteristics is Pasar Kamu, a traditional culinary market located in
Denai Lama Village, Pantai Labu District, Deli Serdang Regency, which is
currently successfully visited by many people from various regions. The purpose
of this study was to find out the forms of community participation in Denai Lama
Village in developing the Kamu Market and to find out the impact of Kamu
Market on the socio-economic conditions of the people in Denai Lama Village.
This research was conducted using descriptive qualitative methods and data
collection techniques by conducting field observations, building rapport, and
conducting in-depth interviews to obtain more accurate data. The results showed
that the unique characteristics found in Pasar Kamu are an exchange system that
uses tempu, selling market snacks that are rarely found and agricultural products,
then there are activities of artists who perform so that this uniqueness becomes an
attraction for tourists to visit Pasar Kamu so that Your market needs to be
developed. In developing your Market, the form of participation provided by the
community is the outpouring of thoughts or ideas, the outlay of funds (material)
and the outlay of energy. So that the development of Pasar Kamu has an impact
on the socio-economic conditions of society such as improving the economy,
increasing education and improving infrastructure and social relations of the
community. The discussion in this research is that traditional markets are not only
seen as an economic space but as a social space where the market is also a place
for intimate personal and group relationships to take place, so that every actor
who plays a role in developing Pasar Kamu has relationships that form a network.
