| dc.description.abstract | Untreated dental caries in children can cause various dental and oral problems such as pulpitis, ulceration, fistula, and abscess which can cause pain and disrupt various activities thus impacting the child's quality of life. The pufa index is an index used to assess the clinical consequences of untreated dental caries in deciduous teeth. This study aimed to know relationship between untreated dental caries with quality of life and the most affected domains in 6-8 years old children in Elementary School 060970 Belawan. The type of research used is analytic observational with cross sectional study design. The population of study are students aged 6-8 years old in Elementary School 060970 Belawan. The sampling techinique using total sampling 0f 183 children. Untreated dental caries examination used the pufa index by Wim Van Palenstein Helderman and the measurement of quality of life used the Child's Perception Questionnaire 11-14 (CPQ11-14ISF:16). Data analysis was performed using Spearman correlation test. The results of study showed that respondents with pufa were 86.9%. The highest mean of pufa scores were in the pulpitis (p) component 3,20±2,6, ulceration (u) 0,13±0,47, fistula (f) 0,06±0,23, and abscess (a) 0,03±0,19. The highest mean of quality of life scores were in the oral symptoms domain 11,34±3,31, functional limitations 10,03±4,14, emotional well-being 8,55±5,24, and social well-being 5,26±3,79. The results of study showed a significant relationship between untreated dental caries with the child's quality of life (p=0.0001) with a positive direction of the relationship and strong correlation (r=0.522). It can be concluded that an increase in pufa score is associated with an increase in quality of life score. | en_US |
