This research analyzes "The Role of KPU in Binjai City to Increase the
Political Participation of Persons with Disabilities in the 2020 Binjai Regional
Election" in the implementation of the 2020 Binjai City elections, of course,
political participation is absolutely needed from all walks of life, including persons
with disabilities. Even though people with disabilities are a minority group, they
have the same position as other non-disabled people. The purpose of this research
is to find out what roles are played by the Binjai City Election Commission as an
election organizer in order to increase the political participation of persons with
disabilities. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive research
method, then the data collection technique used in this research is through literature
studies and documentation relevant to this research and by conducting interviews,
then on the technical data analysis used in this research, namely the taxonomic
analysis model and the theory used is the theory of role and political participation.
Based on the results of the research and discussion showing that the role of
the Binjai City KPU has a significant influence, although it cannot be fully said to
be successful, the KPU continues to strive to provide the best possible role to
increase the political participation of persons with disabilities, which at that time
the regional elections for Binjai City were carried out in the midst of the Covid-19
pandemic but the level of participation the politics of persons with disabilities has
actually increased compared to previous years, this proves that the role given by the
KPU in Binjai City can be said to be quite good, based on the reports of voters with
disabilities, they have shown satisfactory results, although it cannot be said to be
perfect and there are still things that must be addressed. evaluate again.
