In the use of dentures, denture disinfection needs to be considered to maintain denture hygiene. Currently, many natural denture cleaning agents have been developed, one of which is sungkai leaf extract (Peronema canescens Jack). Sungkai leaves (Peronema canescens Jack) contain tannin and flavonoid compounds that can work as antifungals, but tannins and flavonoids are also derivatives of phenol compounds that can affect the surface roughness and impact strength of heat cured acrylic resins. Surface roughness can affect plaque retention, stains, and patient comfort in using the denture. Likewise with impact strength, poor impact strength can cause the denture base to break easily when dropped. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of immersion of heat cured acrylic resin denture bases in 30%, 40%, and 50% sungkai leaf extract (Peronema canescens Jack) on surface roughness and impact strength. The design of this research is laboratory experimental. The samples in this study amounted to 32 samples measuring 65 x 10 x 2.5 mm for surface roughness measurement and impact strength testing. The treatment groups consisted of 30%, 40%, and 50% concentrations of sungkai leaf extract (Peronema canescens Jack), while aquadest was used as the control group. The results of the study were analyzed using the univariant test, One-way ANOVA test, and LSD test. The average surface roughness of heat cured acrylic resin denture base after immersion in sungkai leaf extract (Peronema canescens Jack) with a concentration of 30% was 0.016 ± 0.002 μm, 40% concentration was 0.024 ± 0.004 μm, and 50% concentration was 0.032 ± 0.004 μm. The average impact strength of heat cured acrylic resin denture base after immersion in sungkai leaf extract (Peronema canescens Jack) with a concentration of 30% was 15.589 ± 0.555 x 10-3 J/mm2, 40% concentration was 13.751 ± 0.894 x 10-3 J/mm2, and 50% concentration was 11.631 ± 0.746 x 10-3 J/mm2. From the One-way ANOVA test results, a significance value of p = 0.0001 (p <0.05) was obtained for surface roughness and impact strength. This shows that there is an effect of immersion of heat cured acrylic resin denture bases in 30%, 40%, and 50% sungkai leaf extract (Peronema canescens Jack) on surface roughness and impact strength. Based on the research results, the increase in surface roughness and the decrease in impact strength produced at 30% concentration were smaller than those at 40% and 50% concentrations. Therefore, sungkai leaf extract with a concentration of 30% can be used as an alternative to natural denture cleaning agents.en_US
