The first permanent teeth to erupt in the oral cavity at the age of 6 are permanent
one molar teeth. One permanent molar tooth is most susceptible to dental caries after
an eruption because it has pit and fissure, making it a food retention site and easier for
plaque to attach to teeth. Caries in permanent one-molar teeth are often considered
commonplace and are not particularly noticed by parents because they assume that
permanent one-molar teeth still have replacements after removal. This study aims to
determine the relationship of parents' knowledge of permanent one-molar tooth
eruption with caries in children aged 8 to 10.
The type of research conducted is the study of analytical surveys with cross
sectional designs. This research sample selection technique uses a total sampling
method, data collection is carried out by filling out a questionnaire by parents and
examination of one-permanent molar teeth of children aged 8 to 10 consisting of 65
males and 55 females. The study variables were tested with the X2 (Chi-Square) test.
The results of this study showed that the majority of parents had knowledge of
permanent one molar teeth in the less category of 48.3% and that of children who had
permanent one molar tooth caries was 88.3%. The results of Chi-Square's satirical test
show that there is a relationship between parents' knowledge of permanent molar tooth
eruption and caries occurrence in 8-10 year olds in Elementary School Negeri 064975
Medan Denai District with a statistical test result obtained by a p-value of 0.045.
