Hubungan Merokok dengan Coated Tongue pada Masyarakat di Desa Perbesi Kecamatan Tigabinanga Kabupaten Karo Tahun 2022
Abstract
Smoking is the most common bad habit in society that can cause health problems in the oral cavity. One of the health problems in the oral cavity as a result of smoking is coated tongue. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between smoking and coated tongue in the people of Perbesi Village, Tigabinanga District, Karo Regency. This research is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional approach. The number of study subjects was 90 people who were selected based on the inclusion criteria of being an active smoker for at least 6 months, not consuming alcoholic beverages, not using dentures, not having a history of systemic diabetes mellitus, and being willing to participate in this study, as well as non-cooperative exclusion criteria. Demographic data and smoking history were collected by direct interviews and coated tongue data were obtained by clinical examination. Data analysis was performed by the Chi-Square test. The results of this study showed that there was no relationship between the type of cigarettes smoked and coated tongue (P=1.000), there was a relationship between the number of cigarettes smoked per day and coated tongue (P=0.022), there was no relationship between smoking duration and coated tongue (P=0.122), and there was no relationship between the degree of smoking behavior as measured by the Brinkman Index and the coated tongue (P=0.167). This study concludes that there is a relationship between the number of cigarettes smoked per day and coated tongue in the people of Perbesi Village, Tigabinanga District, Karo Regency. However, there is no relationship between the type of cigarette, duration of smoking, and the degree of smoking behavior as measured by the Brinkman Index and the coated tongue.
