The reason for this thesis is that the election of Bobby - Aulia as mayor and deputy mayor of Medan is inseparable from the existence of kinship patterns that come from the ethnicity itself as well as from organizations and communities that are close to the Bobby - Aulia couple. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method, namely research that aims to present facts and events in a systematic and accurate manner and analyze their truth based on data obtained in the field. Data collection techniques in this study were interview techniques and library research. Based on the results of research and discussion. The meaning of ethnic politics in this study is an attempt to politicize ethnicity in order to pursue political interests, as was the case with the Boby – Aulia pair in the 2020 regional elections in Medan City who sought support from the Batak and Malay ethnic groups, as evidenced by this, the Boby couple Nasution and Aulia Rachman were elected as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Medan in 2020. Ethnic politics is an attempt to mobilize or use ethnicity based on awareness of differences between one group and another.en_US
