The background of this thesis is the importance of the role of the National
Unity and Politics Agency in increasing community participation which shows
that there is no rational level of participation because it is still influenced by
identity and money politics. This thesis aims to explain the role of the North
Sumatra KESBANGPOL in carrying out political education. The National and
Political Unity Agency (KESBANGPOL) is tasked with cultivating political
understanding and views. This research applies a qualitative descriptive
approach, interpreted as research that describes facts and events methodically
and correctly and examines reality based on the evidence obtained in the field.
Interviewing participants and conducting a literature study are the two data
collection methods used in this study. By the results of the research and
discussion, the target of the North Sumatra Provincial Political Unity and
National Unity Agency for political education is the community which includes
first-time voters, women's organizations, community organizations, political
parties, and community groups. However, the main target of the North Sumatra
Province Kesbangpol in political education is first-time voters. By conducting
political education by KESBANGPOL North Sumatra through political
socialization, it can provide an understanding of the world of politics to the
public, in terms of general elections and others, so that people can use their
voting rights properly when the general election takes place as for suggestions
from researchers, namely, Expanding program reach, KESBANGPOL can expand
the reach of their political education programs by reaching various community
groups, including youth, women, minority groups, and rural communities. This
can be implemented in collaboration with educational institutions, community
organizations, and local media to reach more people.
