dc.description.abstractThis research was conducted to obtain the best composition of mussel shell powder as an unsaturated polyester composite filler so as to produce superior composite properties of physical and mechanical properties of mussel shell-filled particleboard. This study uses polyester adhesive and methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKPO) catalyst with a ratio of (99:1) % and particle size of 100 mesh crab shell powder filler with the ratio of matrix composition to filler 100:0, 90:10, 80:20, 70:30, 60:40, 50:50, 40:60 (b / b). the method used in making this composite is compression molding. This research was carried out in several stages, namely the preparation of crab shells as fillers, making composites and analyzing the physical properties and mechanical properties of composites. The test parameters include density, modulus of rapture (MOR), modulus of elasticity (MOE), internal adhesive strength, water absorption and thick development, fourier transform infra red (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM).The results showed that the value of the physical properties of particle boards that meet the SNI 03-2105-2006 standard is on the parameters of density, internal adhesive strength, water absorption and thick development. While the value of mechanical properties that meet the standards of SNI 03-2105-2006 is only 3 in the analysis of fracture firmness (Modulus of Rapture) and bending firmness (Modulus of Elasticity). Based on the results obtained, the particle board with the ratio of matrix composition to filler 70:30 is a particle board that has good quality.en_US
