This bioplastic research uses commercial cellulose as a matrix, Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC) as a filler, and ethylene glycol as a plasticizer. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of adding CMC with ethylene glycol as plastizicer on cellulose-based bioplastics. The method of making bioplastics are carried out by the Solution Casting Technique. 5 g of cellulose was used in each experiment by varying the amount of CMC and ethylene glycol. For CMC used variations of 0%, 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5% (w/v). While ethylene glycol used variations of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% (v/v). The results showed that the addition of CMC and Ethylene Glycol had an effect on the characteristics of bioplastics. The highest density was 0.82 gram/cm3 for bioplastics with the addition of 1.5% CMC and 0% ethylene glycol. The highest water absorption value was 47.06% with the addition of 1.5% CMC and 20% ethylene glycol. The highest tensile strength value was 9.26 MPa at the addition of 1.5% CMC and 5% ethylene glycol. The highest value of elongation at break was 65.16% with the addition of 1.5% CMC and 10% ethylene glycol. The highest elastic modulus value was 46.76 MPa at the addition of 1.5% CMC and 0% ethylene glycol. From the results of the FTIR test, it can be seen that the C=O and O-H groups in bioplastics are due to the addition of CMC and ethylene glycol. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis shows that bioplastics not evenly distributed on the bioplastic film because the resulting solution is not homogeneousen_US
