This research raises the title of family conflict of eSport athletes in Medan City. In this
study, the authors want to see how family relationships form within eSport athletes, which were
before the conflict occurred, the forms of conflict, and their solutions within eSport athlete
families, and see how family relationships after conflicts occurred within eSport athlete families.
The development of the game world has changed following the development of renewable
technology. This innovation resulted in a term called eSport, but this innovation was not
immediately known by the public, as was the case in the eSport athlete family, giving rise to
debate, conflict, within the eSport athlete family. The trigger for this conflict is due to differences
in mindset, demands from parents that are different from the wishes of the athlete. This study uses
a descriptive qualitative research method. This study uses Lewis A. Coser's theory which states
that conflict does not have to be detrimental or dysfunctional for the system in which the conflict
occurs, but rather that conflict can bring positive consequences or benefit the system. Likewise,
what happens in families of eSport athletes, the form of conflict that occurs within families of
eSport athletes is not always in a negative form, in which eSport athletes prioritize the results
created and hope that these results will eliminate the causes the conflict. The findings of this study
are the discovery of an event where conflict does not always have a negative meaning, there is a
change from initially prohibiting the athlete from continuing his gaming profession as an eSport
athlete to accepting or giving permission to eSport athletes even though there are still parents who
have not given permission to their children to continue a career in the world of eSports.
