Preliminary plant design of a glucose syrup from oil palm frond with an
acid hydrolysis process has a production capacity of 90,000 tons/year and operates
for 330 days a year. The main process of this preliminary plant design consists of
four stages, namely the raw material preparation stage, the pretreatment stage
using the kraft process, the hydrolysis and purification stage, and the cooking
solution recovery stage. In the hydrolysis stage, 1 continuous stirred tank reactor
(CSTR) unit is used which operates at a temperature of 170°C for 1 hour. The
amount of oil palm frond needed to reach the annual production capacity is
29,938.204 kg/hour.
The plant design of a glucose syrup from oil palm frond with an acid
hydrolysis process is planned to be built in Asahan Regency, North Sumatra
Province, with a total plant area of 18,015 m2. The planned business entity form is
a Limited Liability Company (Ltd.) with line and staff organizational form and a
total of 174 employees.
The results of the economic analysis on this plant design are as follows:
• Capital Investment (CI) = Rp 2,478,177,903,493
• Total Cost (TC) = Rp 1,895,059,963,450
• Profit Margin (PM) = 24.675%
• Break Even Point (BEP) = 25.515%
• Return on Investment (ROI) = 17.845%
• Return on Network (RON) = 29.741%
• Pay Out Time (POT) = 5 years 7 months
• Internal Rate of Return (IRR) = 18.259%
Based on the results of the economic analysis, it can be concluded that a
glucose syrup plant from oil palm frond with an acid hydrolysis process is feasible
to establish.
