This thesis is entitled the phenomenon of violence committed by parents on children
in households in housing X and surrounding Pematangsiantar city. In this study, the
author wants to see why violence is committed by parents on children in the
household and see why violence often occurs to children even though child protection
laws and domestic violence laws have been formed. The method used in this study is
descriptive with a qualitative approach. Informant determination using Purposive
sampling technique by interviewing 16 informants, consisting of 11 key informants
and 5 additional informants and presenting data refers to the concept of violent
reproduction. The results showed that the process of reproduction of violence runs
through the practices of the way parents care for their children in the house. Parents
often commit violence in the process of caring for and disciplining their children. The
author found two types of violence used, namely first, physical violence such as
hitting, pinching and hitting with blunt objects. Second, verbal abuse such as yelling
and speaking with harsh words when reprimanding a child. The process of
reproduction of violence in caring for children is due to several factors, namely first,
the cycle of violence. Second, a wrong understanding of how to discipline the child.
Third, the influence of the family's social environment can influence the production
of violence in caring for children. Fourth, the lack of knowledge of parents in caring
for their children in the home that uses violence as one of the ways taken in
reprimanding or overcoming children's bad behavior. Fifth, the lack of economic
parents. In this study, most parents are already aware of the Child Protection Law and
the Domestic Violence Law and are aware that their treatment in the process of caring
for children is considered to be an act of violence, but parents consider that the
actions taken are the right actions in caring for their children in the household as long
as it is not excessive. In the results of this study, it was found that violence in housing
X and its surroundings has decreased compared to existing cases of violence in
Indonesia and from the results of previous studies.
