Abstract

The existence of elderly people (elderly) has become a concern for many parties, especially the government. The government is obliged to be able to prosper and be able to provide adequate social services for the needs of the elderly. The increase in the number of elderly population is one indicator of success in development as well as a challenge in the development of Medan City. If the problem is not considered from now on, it is possible that the process of development of Medan City will experience various obstacles. One way out to overcome these problems is the empowerment program for the elderly. This study aims to describe and explain how the role of the Institute for the empowerment of elderly women (LPPLU) Medan in conducting empowerment activities for elderly women in Medan. The main study in this study is the impact of what is felt by elderly women with the establishment of an Institute for the empowerment of elderly women (LPPLU) Medan. The research method used in this study is a qualitative research method that aims to provide an overview of the Institute for the empowerment of elderly women (LPPLU) Medan. The method of data collection used in this study is the method of participation observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. By taking data sources from informants, the data analysis used is descriptive data analysis that aims to describe the results of wanwacara with elderly women of the Institute for empowerment of elderly women (LPPLU) Medan City. The results showed that the response of elderly women to the Institute for empowerment of elderly women (LPPLU) Medan produced a positive response because many empowerment activities that can improve the physical health and mental health of elderly women in their lives. From the findings of the study, there needs to be a discussion about the Institute for the empowerment of elderly women (LPPLU) Medan City as an institution that empowers elderly women and can explore the potential in developing the interests and talents of elderly women.
