The phenomenon of street children is a real picture that fulfillment of a child's rights is
far from hopeless. The condition of street children who must work in the street
indirectly alters the rights that children should have. A street child should be on the
streets when he should be in school, getting an education, playing with friends his age
and doing other things that promote his growth as a human being. The research is aimed
at figuring out how street children in the city phenomenon at the Padangsidimpuan. The
research location is at the main market connects the city directly to the northern village.
The research method used is the participants' descriptive approach, interview and
documentation. Studies were conducted on 10 (ten) informers, 8 street children and 2
parents of street children. The results of field studies indicate that the main or dominant
factor experienced by city dwellers at the Padangsidimpuan is the ekenomi factor
(revenue, place, possession of goods) that obliges them to work on the streets to help
with their family's economy. In addition to social factors (aspirations, participation in
communities), culture (habits), education (levels of education for parents and children),
and development (urbanisation) are also factors that contribute to the emergence of
street children in the Padangsidimpuan.
