Background: Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (ASPECTS) is a quantitative scoring system to measure the extension of early ischemic changes in hyperacute ischemic stroke in the anterior circulation. Risk factors of dysphagia have been linked to ASPECTS score. Patients with lower ASPECTS scores have a higher risk of dysphagia. Furthermore, ASPECTS score has also been linked with severity. Objective: To study an association between ASPECTSS score and dysphagia and severity in patients with acute ischemic stroke in RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan Methods: This analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted in the RSUP H. Adam Malik from November 2022 – January 2023. Subjects include acute ischemic stroke patients confirmed by a non-contrast head CT scan. We collected data regarding the ASPECTS, NIHSS scores, and dysphagia evaluation from the Gugging Swallowing Screen. The Association between ASPECTS score and dysphagia was performed using Mann-Whitney test, and the association between ASPECT score and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score was performed by Spearman test. Results: A total of 34 subjects were included in this study, with a mean age of 58.4±10.1 years. We found a significant association between ASPECT score and dysphagia (p <0.001), and a significant negative association with a very strong correlation between ASPECTS and NIHSS scores (r=-0.82; p<0.001). Conclusion: There is a significant association between ASPECT score and dysphagia and stroke severity.en_US
