| dc.description.abstract | The art of pencak silat is the science of self-defense which is equipped with
elements of art and morals of Malay civilization which are thick with its culture.
In Langkat Regency, in Bingai Village to be precise, there is one of the Malay
performances which is the object of this study, namely the Malay pencak silat art
performance. The art of Malay pencak silat was popularized by one of the art
studios in the Bingai Village, namely the art Titi Payung studio. This study
examines the beauty contained in the performance of Malay pencak silat. This
study aims to describe how the performing arts of pencak silat are in the tradition
of Malay society and describe how the Titi Payung studio strives to maintain its
existence. This research is an exploratory research using qualitative research
methods. The author uses data collection in the form of observation, in-depth
interviews, and documentation. The results of this study explain that the art of
pencak silat is performed in the Malay tradition, for example at weddings and
circumcisions. The art studio Titi Payung has a name for their pencak silat art,
namely the pencak silat tari Laman. The movement is obtained or combined from
the movements of the Lintau, Terlak, and Cimande silat styles. In this pencak silat
art performance it is accompanied by patam-patam music and the musical
instruments used are Malay drums, violins and accordions. The costume in this
show is a bay belanga shirt while the property used is a wooden dagger. In
addition to this research, this also explains that in order to maintain its existence,
the Titi Payung art studio has several efforts that must be made, namely by
fostering enthusiasm for the participation of the younger generation and also not
limiting membership in the studio. From the results of the study there is an
aesthetic value or beauty in the performing arts of pencak silat where the beauty is
in the movements of the pencak silat music accompaniment to property costumes
and others said by the Malay people themselves. | en_US |
