The successful organization of elections is inseparable from the participation of
voters with disabilities who are a strategic segment in Indonesia's democratic life.
This can be seen from the ratification of their rights through Law Number 19 of
2011 concerning the Ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons With
Disabilities, Law Number 8 of 2016 concerning Persons with Disabilities, and Law
Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections. The research method used in this
study is descriptive using a qualitative approach. The research location is Medan
City, located at the office of the General Election Supervisory Board, North
Sumatra Province. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews,
documentation and literature review.
The results of this study are how the efforts and role of Bawaslu in increasing
community participation in monitoring elections and elections, namely one of the
efforts made by Bawaslu is the socialization of election administration involving
elements of disability which is also a breakthrough made by Bawaslu North
Sumatra to build a common understanding of realizing participatory elections by
all parties including elements of disability. With the model of strengthening and
improving the quality of simultaneous elections, it is expected that the level of
political participation of voters with disabilities will increase in accordance with
the expectations of election organizers in the context of Indonesian democracy
