Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is defined as a lung inflammation that can cause a continuous limitation of airflow. Spirometry is a common examination used in the evaluation of lung function in COPD patients. However, many patients have to repeat this examination several times due to their breathing limitations. A characteristic clinical feature of COPD patients is the appearance of a barrel chest, which indicates the severity and progression of the disease. Therefore, a system for measuring chest expansion has been proposed, which consists of a measuring device and an application that synergize to monitor the progression of COPD in patients. The measuring device in this system uses a stepper motor for its movement. Stepper motors are widely used in systems that require position control due to their flexibility, ease of control, and relative efficiency. However, the low torque-to-current ratio produced by the stepper motor control algorithm affects the efficiency that can still be improved. Current research on energy-efficient electric motors focuses on induction machines, which consume a significant amount of energy. Thus, the efficiency of low-power electric motors such as stepper motors is rarely discussed in the literature. Therefore, calculating the energy consumption of the stepper motor is an interesting topic for research. Using a quantitative method, this study aims to analyze the effect of the speed of the stepper motor on its efficiency. Thus, this system can be improved to assist in overcoming difficulties in measuring and monitoring the progression of COPD in patients.en_US
