Perkembangan dan Eksistensi Orkestra pada Acara Perkawinan di Kota Medan dari Tahun 2015-2023

Abstract

In the city of Medan, the orchestra is one of the rare music formats. Besides requiring a large fee, the orchestra can only be played in certain activities. An orchestra is a musical performance involving dozens to dozens of musicians with their instruments being played together. In general, the orchestral format consists of strings, wind instruments, and a rhythm section. There are several types of orchestras from small to large formats, namely; Orchestral Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, Mini Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra. In general, the orchestra is used in musical performances such as work performances, concerts, wedding events. Orchestral performances in Medan City are very varied and interesting when viewed from the format and presentation of the works performed, the majority do not follow rules that are in accordance with academic rules, such as in terms of making scores/scores, formats, and interpretation of the players. In this study, the researchers determined three problem formulations, namely: (1) What are the forms and types of orchestras at weddings in the city of Medan? (2) What is the genre of music used in wedding events in Medan City? (3) How is the development and existence of the orchestra in the city of Medan? Until now there are several orchestras that are still active in Medan City, among others, Shine Orchestra, Happy Orchestra, Shenology Orchestra, Medan Orchestra, Cadenza and several project orchestras from Medan State University and HKBP Nommensen University Medan. Shine Orchestra, Happy Orchestra, Shenology Orchestra, performed specifically for the wedding segment. Meanwhile, other orchestras from universities are specially shown for work performances, recitals, Christmas events, etc. The continuity of the orchestra is growing and over time it makes changes to the format and genre being played.
